Independent Vendor-neutral Northern California
What we do

Physical security consulting services.

Wittner Security Consultants provides six physical security consulting services to Northern California organizations: risk and vulnerability assessments, security system design, master planning, CPTED and environmental design, emergency and incident planning, and compliance and code guidance.

Every engagement is delivered personally by Paul Wittner, a California licensed contractor with 46 years in the field. No guards are staffed, no hardware is sold, and no work that gets recommended is bid or installed by us.

How the work usually sequences

These are not six unrelated products. In most engagements they follow a natural order, and you rarely need all of them:

  • Start with an assessment when you do not yet know precisely where you are exposed. It is the input to everything else.
  • Move to master planning when the findings exceed one budget cycle or span multiple sites.
  • Move to system design when you know what is needed and require a specification you can competitively bid.
  • Bring in CPTED early, ideally during building or site design, where it is cheapest and most effective.
  • Add emergency planning once the physical measures are settled, so the plan matches the building you actually have.
  • Use compliance guidance whenever a regulation, insurer, or audit finding is driving the work.

One senior person, start to finish

There is no bench of junior associates here. Paul performs the site walk, writes the findings, and presents them himself. For a facility trusting someone with its vulnerabilities, that continuity matters more than a larger logo. More about Paul.

Common questions

Which service do we actually need?

Most engagements begin with a risk and vulnerability assessment, because it establishes what the real problems are before anyone spends money solving the wrong one. If you already know the problem and need a buildable specification, design work can start directly. A phone call is usually enough to tell which.

Do you work with facilities outside Northern California?

No. Wittner Security Consultants serves Northern California only. This is deliberate: physical security work requires being on site, repeatedly, at different hours, and a consultant who cannot get to your building quickly is not much use to you.

Do you do cybersecurity?

No. This practice is physical security: buildings, perimeters, doors, cameras, access control, lighting, layout, and procedures. If your problem is network or data security, we are not the right consultant and will say so.

Do you provide security guards?

No. We staff no officers and have no guard force to sell you. That absence is deliberate, because it is what allows an assessment to conclude honestly that you do not need more guards.

Request an assessment

Not sure where to start?

Most people are not, and that is fine. Describe the facility and what prompted the call, and Paul will tell you which of these you actually need, including when the answer is none of them.
